Antisemitic Chants Erupt in The Hague After Morocco’s World Cup Elimination
A group of Morocco soccer fans in The Hague chanted an antisemitic and homophobic slogan following Morocco's 2-0 World Cup semifinal loss to France. Videos circulating online showed the crowd waving Moroccan and Palestinian flags before police moved in to restore order. Claims that additional antisemitic chants were heard or that the crowd gathered outside a hotel hosting Israeli tourists could not be independently verified.
Antisemitic unrest broke out in The Hague on Thursday night after Morocco was eliminated from the FIFA World Cup by France in a 2-0 semifinal defeat.
Videos shared on social media showed a crowd of men and teenagers chanting the antisemitic and homophobic slogan,
"All Jews are gay."
Many in the crowd were seen waving Moroccan and Palestinian flags as tensions rose in the streets.
Unverified Online Claims
Some social media users claimed the crowd had gathered outside a hotel where Israeli tourists were staying. However, available footage appears to show the demonstration outside a health clinic, and there is no public indication that the location was a hotel or guesthouse.
Additional online claims that demonstrators shouted,
"Hamas, Hamas, Jews to the gas,"
could not be confirmed from the available videos and remain unverified.
Police Restore Order
According to local reports, community volunteers initially attempted to disperse the crowd before Dutch police arrived in large numbers. Authorities brought the situation under control less than an hour after the match ended.
The incident adds to ongoing concerns over antisemitic incidents linked to public demonstrations and major international sporting events across Europe.
