U.S. Central Command announced that American forces carried out a precision airstrike in northwest Syria on June 19, killing senior ISIS leader Ali Husayn al-‘Ulaywi.
CENTCOM said the strike is part of continued U.S. operations to disrupt and eliminate ISIS terrorists who seek to attack Americans overseas or target the U.S. homeland.
American forces continue to work with regional partners as part of the broader mission to ensure ISIS does not rebuild its terror network in Syria or across the region.
“CENTCOM and our partners remain committed to rooting out remaining remnants of ISIS to ensure its enduring defeat,” said Adm. Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander.
Cooper said U.S. forces will continue defending the homeland, American service members, and allies and partners throughout the Middle East.
