IDF Chief: Fragile Lebanon Ceasefire Won’t Stop Israel From Preventing Hezbollah’s Return
IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said Israel remains fully prepared to resume military operations in southern Lebanon if necessary, warning that the current ceasefire is fragile. During a visit to frontline forces, Zamir stressed that Israel's mission remains protecting northern communities while preventing Hezbollah from rebuilding its military infrastructure.
IDF: Northern Border Security Remains the Top Priority
IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir visited Israeli forces operating in southern Lebanon alongside Northern Command Commander Maj. Gen. Rafi Milo, senior division commanders, and brigade leadership to assess the security situation on the ground.
Speaking to troops, Zamir praised the commanders and soldiers for their determination and operational achievements while expressing condolences over the recent loss of Lt. Col. Dor Gedalia Ben Simhon and members of his unit.
"We are paying a heavy price in defending our home," Zamir said. "Our objective remains clear and unchanged — defending the communities of northern Israel and the citizens of Israel."
Israel Warns Hezbollah Against Rebuilding
Zamir said one of the central lessons learned from the October 7 Hamas massacre is that Israel will no longer allow terrorist organizations to establish military strongholds along its borders.
According to the IDF, Hezbollah has suffered significant damage during recent operations. Zamir said Israeli forces eliminated several mid-level commanders from Hezbollah's Badr Units and other formations over the past two days, further weakening the Iran-backed terror organization.
He also highlighted ongoing military operations around the Ali al-Taher and Beaufort areas, describing them as major underground Hezbollah military complexes that were built over approximately two decades.
"The Ceasefire Is Fragile"
Zamir warned that while a ceasefire is currently in place, Israel remains fully prepared for renewed fighting if Hezbollah violates the agreement or attempts to rebuild its capabilities.
"The ceasefire is fragile. We must remain at a high level of readiness for renewed combat operations, the elimination of threats, and a rapid transition to offensive action if required. All IDF resources are committed to this mission," Zamir said.
He concluded by praising the soldiers of the 401st Brigade for continuing to fight with determination despite suffering heavy losses throughout the war, saying their resilience reflects the spirit of the Israel Defense Forces.
