IDF: International Soccer Referee Was Also a Palestinian Islamic Jihad Terrorist
The IDF says a man publicly known as an international soccer referee also served as a terrorist in Palestinian Islamic Jihad's Central Camps Brigade, highlighting what Israel says is the terror group's exploitation of civilian institutions.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) published an image alleging that Mohammed Sami Mohammed Khattab, publicly known as an international soccer referee, was also a terrorist in the Palestinian Islamic Jihad's Central Camps Brigade.
The graphic contrasts Khattab's public role as a referee with what the IDF says was his membership in the Iran-backed terrorist organization.
IDF Highlights Terror Groups' Use of Civilian Roles
Alongside the image, the IDF wrote,
"Meet some of Hamas & Palestinian Islamic Jihad's 'soccer players.'"
According to the IDF, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad have repeatedly embedded operatives within civilian institutions and public-facing professions, making it more difficult to distinguish terrorists from civilians.
The Israeli military has consistently argued that exposing these networks is an important part of dismantling terrorist organizations operating in Gaza.
