Regional tensions intensified after Iran reportedly launched multiple missiles toward southern Jordan, close to Israel's border, in what appears to be a significant expansion of its military response following recent U.S. strikes.
Missiles Intercepted Near Israel
According to Jordanian military officials, at least three missiles fired from Iran were intercepted over southern Jordan. The Israeli military also launched interceptors to prevent missile debris from entering Israeli territory. Fragments from the interception reportedly landed near the southern Israeli city of Eilat.
Iran has increasingly broadened its list of targets. What initially focused on U.S. military installations in the Gulf has reportedly expanded to include civilian infrastructure and more distant locations, including areas near Israel's border.
Israel Issues Strong Warning
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned that if Iran launches missiles toward Israel, the country will respond with full force.
"If Iran fires missiles, we will strike back with full power. Israel is prepared for both defense and offense," Katz said.
Jordan also condemned the missile launches, summoning Iran's chargé d'affaires and describing the attack as an unjustified and blatant act of aggression.
Iran Denies Targeting Jordan
Iran maintains that its intended target was a U.S. military facility located inside Jordan rather than Jordanian territory itself.
Meanwhile, Kuwait accused Iran of attacking a desalination facility for a second consecutive day, calling the strikes violations of international law because they targeted civilian infrastructure.
Hormuz Strait Threats Continue
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also warned commercial vessels operating in the Strait of Hormuz, claiming two ships ignored Iranian warnings and became involved in unspecified incidents. The IRGC repeated its assertion that vessels using what it called a 'dangerous route' through the strategic waterway risk future incidents.
Regional Stability Under Pressure
Although the United States and Iran previously agreed to a framework intended to reduce hostilities and pursue negotiations, recent missile launches and expanding military threats suggest regional tensions continue to rise, with growing concerns that Israel could be drawn into a wider confrontation.
