Iran Targets U.S. Bases in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain Following American Strikes
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed responsibility for missile and drone attacks against U.S. military facilities in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain after recent American strikes on Iranian military targets. Most of the projectiles were reportedly intercepted, with no U.S. casualties reported so far. The exchange marks one of the most serious escalations since the April ceasefire.
Tensions between the United States and Iran escalated sharply after Iran launched missile and drone attacks targeting U.S. military installations in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain. The attacks came in response to recent American strikes on Iranian military facilities near the Strait of Hormuz.
According to a statement from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the operation was carried out as retaliation for the U.S. military action. The IRGC claimed it struck multiple targets at Jordan's Al Azraq Air Base, including facilities associated with F-35 fighter aircraft and command-and-control infrastructure.
"If the United States carries out further attacks, Iran's response will be more destructive and decisive," the IRGC warned.
The United States said its earlier operation targeted approximately 20 Iranian military sites, including air defense systems, ground control facilities, and surveillance radar positions. American officials described the strikes as a proportional response following the reported downing of a U.S. Apache attack helicopter.
President Donald Trump defended the operation during an interview with ABC News, saying the response needed to be strong and that the military action reflected that approach.
Regional Air Defenses Respond
U.S. officials stated that most Iranian missiles and drones were intercepted before reaching their targets. As of now, no American casualties or significant damage to military facilities have been reported.
Jordan's military announced that it intercepted all five missiles launched toward Al Azraq Air Base. Kuwaiti authorities also reported intercepting hostile aerial threats, while Bahrain said its air defense systems successfully blocked the attack.
Ceasefire Under Pressure
The latest confrontation is being viewed as the most serious military escalation since the United States and Iran agreed to a ceasefire in April. The exchange follows recent direct clashes between Israel and Iran, raising concerns that the region could be moving toward a broader conflict.
Major disagreements remain unresolved. The United States continues to insist that Iran abandon any pursuit of nuclear weapons as a central condition for a long-term settlement. Iran, meanwhile, is demanding sanctions relief, the return of frozen assets worth billions of dollars, recognition of its position regarding the Strait of Hormuz, and other regional concessions.
The situation remains fluid, with both sides signaling that further escalation remains possible.
