Israel Strikes Hezbollah Targets In Beirut After Fire On Northern Israel
Israel says it struck Hezbollah command centers in Beirut’s southern suburbs after the Iran-backed terror group fired toward northern Israel, testing a fragile U.S.-supported ceasefire.
Israel carried out strikes Sunday in Beirut’s southern suburbs, targeting what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office described as Hezbollah command centers after fire was launched toward northern Israel.
Lebanon’s state-run news agency reported that two people were killed and 11 others were wounded in an initial count. The strike reportedly hit a residential building and damaged several floors.
Israel Says Hezbollah Remains A Threat
Netanyahu said Israel is continuing to hit Hezbollah hard and will not allow the Iran-backed terror group to threaten Israeli communities along the northern border.
“We are striking them very hard, and we know that Hezbollah is on the run,” Netanyahu told his Cabinet.
Hezbollah did not immediately claim responsibility for the reported fire toward Israel.
Ceasefire Under Pressure
The strike came days after a U.S.-supported ceasefire agreement went into effect. The deal was meant to reduce fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, but Israeli officials say the terror group continues to pose a direct threat.
Iran, Hezbollah’s main backer, warned that attacks in Beirut could widen the conflict. Iranian officials also suggested that U.S. and Israeli assets in the region could be targeted.
Regional Tensions Grow
The fighting comes as Pakistan, Qatar, Turkey, and Egypt are involved in efforts to restart talks between Washington and Tehran. Iran is reportedly pushing for Lebanon to be included in any broader deal.
Israel’s position remains clear: Hezbollah cannot be allowed to operate freely on Israel’s border or use Lebanon as a launchpad for attacks.
The bottom line: ceasefires cannot work while Hezbollah keeps threatening Israeli civilians. Israel has the right to defend its people and remove terror infrastructure from its borders.
