Two Hamas security officials, including the head of the terror group’s internal security operations in central Gaza, were killed when their vehicle was struck in Deir al-Balah, according to Hamas-run authorities.
An Israeli airstrike killed two senior Hamas security officials traveling in a vehicle in Deir al-Balah on Sunday, according to the Hamas-run Interior Ministry in Gaza.
The ministry identified one of the men as Colonel Wael Moussa al-Ladawi, 44, who headed Hamas’s internal security service in the central Gaza Strip. The second official was identified as Major Ramez Tawfiq Abu Zureiq, 49.
Palestinian reports said the two Hamas officers were traveling through the central Gaza city when their vehicle was targeted. Images published after the strike showed a burned-out vehicle in the roadway surrounded by heavy smoke.
Their bodies were reportedly taken to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital.
The strike came one day after another senior Hamas police official in northern Gaza was reportedly killed in an Israeli attack. Israel said that official was also connected to Hamas’s military wing.
Hamas presents its police and internal security bodies as civilian institutions, but these organizations operate under the authority of the terrorist group that seized control of Gaza and has used government agencies to maintain its rule.
The latest strike removes two more senior figures from Hamas’s internal command structure as Israel continues acting against the terror organization and its operational networks inside Gaza.
