Massive Tehran Funeral for Khamenei Turns Into Anti-American and Anti-Israel Rally
Millions reportedly filled the streets of Tehran for the funeral procession of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with mourners waving Iranian flags and chanting threats against President Trump and Israel. Iranian authorities shut metro stations, declared holidays, and closed Tehran’s airspace amid fears of overcrowding.
Millions of mourners packed the streets of Tehran as Iran held a massive funeral procession for Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iranian authorities took major security and crowd-control measures, including temporarily closing six metro stations over stampede concerns. Tehran was placed under a three-day holiday, and the city’s airspace was also shut down.
The funeral quickly became a display of regime anger toward the United States and Israel. Some mourners carried a massive English-language banner threatening President Trump, while others hung a Trump-like doll or threw objects at images of his face.
Iran’s Health Ministry reportedly expected up to 15 million people to take part in the six-day funeral events, possibly exceeding the turnout for Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s 1989 funeral.
Top Iranian regime figures appeared at the ceremonies, including senior Revolutionary Guard officials and Khamenei’s sons. According to reports, Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared publicly amid concerns over possible Israeli strikes or being tracked.
After the Tehran procession, Khamenei’s remains are expected to be taken to Qom, then to the Shiite holy cities of Najaf and Karbala in Iraq, before burial in his hometown of Mashhad.
