Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met on Saturday with Christian soldiers and commanders from a range of IDF units, praising their service and highlighting the role of Christians in Israel’s military and society.

Speaking from the Prime Minister’s Office, Netanyahu described the group as an extraordinary collection of young men and women serving across key positions in the Israeli military.

Netanyahu praises Christian soldiers’ service

Netanyahu said the soldiers and commanders are filling important roles throughout the IDF and doing exceptional work.

He said their presence and service stand in sharp contrast to the image of Israel often presented abroad.

“They fill all the important positions in our incredible military and they do incredible work. This is completely contrary to what is presented outside,” Netanyahu said.

Defense of Israel and regional Christians

Netanyahu said Israel not only defends the rights of Christians across the Middle East, but also includes Christian soldiers who serve in defense of the state and of Christian communities across the region.

He said he was impressed by the soldiers’ personal stories, their commitment, their sacrifice and their achievements.

‘Christian community is thriving’

Netanyahu also said Israel is unique in the Middle East in the condition of its Christian population.

“Israel is the one country in the Middle East where the Christian community is thriving, is growing and it’s expanding,” Netanyahu said.

He ended the meeting by saluting the soldiers and thanking them for their service.
