Oman has reportedly proposed a joint management system for the Strait of Hormuz that would prevent Iran from exercising sole control over the strategic waterway.
The proposal, backed by several regional countries according to Reuters, is modeled after the Strait of Malacca, where users voluntarily contribute to navigation and security costs instead of recognizing exclusive control by one nation.
The move comes after weeks of heightened tensions between the U.S. and Iran. Diplomatic efforts are now focused on keeping one of the world's most critical shipping routes open while negotiations continue.
