Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s scheduled testimony was canceled Monday after an overnight update from his defense team. The cancellation appears to be tied to security-related matters, including a late-night cabinet meeting that reportedly continued into the early morning hours. The move came shortly after Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara said she was ready to discuss a possible plea agreement with Netanyahu, but only without preconditions and without harming the trial.
The District Court announced Monday morning that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s scheduled testimony had been canceled.
The decision followed an overnight update submitted by Netanyahu’s defense attorney, Amit Hadad. The cancellation appears to be connected to security-related matters.
According to Channel 12 News, the reason was Netanyahu’s security schedule, including a cabinet meeting Sunday night that continued late into the night.
“Until the wee hours of the morning.”
The cancellation came just hours after Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara sent an official letter to President Isaac Herzog regarding Netanyahu’s legal cases.
In the letter, Baharav-Miara said she and State Attorney Amit Aisman are ready to discuss a possible plea agreement with Prime Minister Netanyahu.
“Prepared to engage in discussions on a plea agreement with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.”
She added that any talks would only move forward if there are no preconditions and if the trial is not delayed or harmed.
“There are no preconditions and no harm to the progress of the trial.”
So far, Prime Minister Netanyahu has not responded to the letter.
