Poll: Most Israelis View Iran as the Main Beneficiary of the War and US-Iran Deal
A new survey conducted by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Agam Institute found widespread public dissatisfaction with the outcome of Israel's war against Iran and the subsequent US-Iran agreement. The poll indicates declining confidence in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's handling of the conflict while showing continued public support for strong military action against Hezbollah.
According to a nationwide survey of 3,644 respondents conducted between June 17 and June 20, 92.1% of Israelis believe Iran emerged as the winner following the war and the agreement reached between Tehran and the United States. The findings were published Sunday by researchers from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Agam Institute.
The poll also found that 82.9% believe the six-week military campaign weakened Israel's long-term security, while 86% expressed a negative view of the war's outcome and the US-Iran agreement, which was reached without Israeli participation.
Confidence in Government Leadership Falls
The survey points to growing public skepticism toward the government's handling of the conflict. According to the findings, 72.5% of respondents said they do not accept Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's assessment that Israel achieved major strategic gains or eliminated an existential threat.
When asked to evaluate the prime minister's management of the war, 56.4% rated it as poor or failed, while 26.5% described it as good or excellent. Another 17.1% considered his performance fair.
The poll also recorded a decline in support for Netanyahu remaining prime minister, dropping from 40.5% in March to 29.4% in June.
Views on the United States and Hezbollah
Respondents also expressed dissatisfaction with US President Donald Trump's handling of the conflict and its aftermath. Nearly 69.1% rated his management as poor or failed, while 10.8% viewed it positively.
Despite criticism over the Iran war, support for confronting Hezbollah remains significant. Asked whether Israel should resume major military operations against Hezbollah, including strikes in Beirut even if doing so creates tension with Washington, 48.2% supported such action. Around 20.9% opposed it, while 30.9% remained undecided.
"Total Victory" Goal
The survey also examined public opinion regarding the government's stated objective of achieving "total victory" in the wars against Hamas and Hezbollah.
12.2% believe Israel achieved most of those goals.
26.5% believe some objectives were achieved.
61.3% believe the goals were not achieved at all.
The survey was conducted among Israelis aged 17 and older. According to the researchers, the margin of sampling error is 2.2% at a 99% confidence level.
