Trump Says Iran Has Agreed to “Just About Everything” the U.S. Needs
President Donald Trump says Iran has been militarily weakened by U.S. strikes and has agreed to nearly all key American demands in ongoing negotiations. Tehran has denied some of Trump’s claims, including reports of direct meetings with U.S. officials in Qatar.
President Donald Trump said Thursday that Iran has agreed to “just about everything we need” as talks continue between Washington and Tehran over a final agreement.
Speaking in an interview with CNBC, Trump rejected the idea that the conflict with Iran could become another long-running foreign war. He pointed to past U.S. conflicts and said his approach has been different.
“I’ve defeated them militarily. They’re totally defeated militarily,” Trump said.
Trump said the U.S. has struck Iranian targets multiple times in recent weeks in response to Iranian actions, including attacks connected to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. He warned that the U.S. could go further if Iran continues violating the ceasefire.
The president also said Iran’s economy is under severe pressure, claiming inflation is extremely high and that the regime’s strength and bravado have been badly damaged.
Trump repeated that the U.S. may use frozen Iranian funds to purchase American agricultural products, including corn, wheat, and soybeans, for the Iranian people. Tehran has rejected some of Trump’s claims about what has been agreed to in the talks.
On the nuclear issue, Trump said Iran cannot be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon, whether the threat is to Israel, the Middle East, or the wider world.
Talks are expected to continue, though Iran has denied that its officials will meet directly with Americans in Qatar. Trump said planned meetings with Iranian officials may be “important” or may not be.
The bottom line: Trump is presenting Iran as militarily weakened, economically pressured, and moving closer to U.S. demands — while Tehran continues trying to deny weakness in public.
