Trump Warns Oman Against Obstructing Iran Talks as Hormuz Standoff Deepens
President Donald Trump warned that Oman could face a major U.S. military strike if it interferes with negotiations involving Iran, as talks over the Strait of Hormuz and Tehran’s nuclear program remain deadlocked.
President Donald Trump issued a sharp warning to Oman on Monday, saying the United States could take military action if Muscat becomes an obstacle in negotiations with Iran.
Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Trump was asked about Oman’s role in the diplomatic process and responded with a direct threat of military force.
“If Oman gets in the way, we will bomb them very hard,” Trump said.
Iran Talks Reach Deadline Without Agreement
The warning comes as negotiations between Washington and Tehran over control of the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear program remain at an impasse.
The United States and Iran had a 60-day negotiating period under a memorandum of understanding reached in June. That period expired Monday without the two sides reaching a final agreement.
Trump made clear that Washington is not operating under pressure to quickly end the confrontation. He said the existing maritime blockade is increasing pressure on Tehran and indicated there is no fixed timetable for resolving the dispute.
Trump: Iran Will Not Get a Nuclear Weapon
The president also reaffirmed one of his administration’s central positions on Iran: Tehran will not be permitted to obtain a nuclear weapon.
The standoff places renewed attention on the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important shipping routes and a critical passage for global energy supplies.
Iran has recently held discussions with Oman over possible arrangements for vessels traveling through Omani waters and the Strait of Hormuz as officials search for a diplomatic breakthrough.
Washington Keeps Military Option on the Table
The Trump administration is closely watching Oman’s involvement as it maintains pressure on Tehran. Trump’s warning signals that Washington does not intend to accept outside moves that undermine its strategy toward Iran.
With the negotiating deadline now expired and no agreement in place, the confrontation remains unresolved. Trump, however, has indicated there is no need to rush a settlement while pressure continues to build on Iran.
