Conservative commentator Tucker Carlson says he is ready to help build a third political party after breaking with President Donald Trump over U.S. involvement in the Iran war.
According to the report, Carlson told the Columbia Journalism Review that both Democrats and Republicans are moving in the same direction on foreign policy, Middle East wars, and other major issues.
“We need a third party,” Carlson said, adding that he would help efforts to create one.
Carlson said the country needs a serious effort to determine what is actually in America’s national interest.
He also said he has not spoken with Trump since the Iran war and does not plan to, describing Trump as someone who is not fully in control of his own life.
Carlson has long criticized U.S. foreign intervention and was once one of Trump’s strongest media allies. He supported Trump in 2024 in part because of Trump’s promise not to start new wars overseas.
That relationship reportedly began to collapse after Trump ordered strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, and worsened after the Iran war began.
Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who also split from Trump, has recently spoken about talks to form a new America First-style party outside the Democrat and Republican systems.
Still, building a serious third party remains difficult, with major challenges including money, organization, ballot access, and national infrastructure.
