U.S. embassies across the Middle East issued coordinated security warnings on August 1, urging American citizens in the region to consider leaving and prepare for a possible escalation involving Iran.
Embassies in Israel, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, and other countries advised Americans to remain highly alert and prepare for canceled flights, temporary airspace closures, and broader travel disruptions.
“U.S. citizens in the region should consider departing or prepare to depart if the situation escalates,” the security alert said.
The U.S. Embassy in Israel said the regional security environment remains complicated, with the possibility of an unexpected escalation as tensions continue to rise.
Americans currently outside the Middle East were urged to seriously reconsider travel to or through the region. Those who must travel were advised to closely monitor airport conditions, airline schedules, and possible airspace restrictions.
Several airlines have delayed the resumption of service or canceled certain routes because of the worsening security situation.
The embassy warning noted that U.S. diplomatic facilities have previously been targeted both inside and outside the Middle East.
Iran and Iran-backed groups could attempt to strike American facilities, businesses, institutions, or locations associated with U.S. citizens, the alert warned.
The embassy also described the Iranian regime as unpredictable, pointing to recent attacks carried out without advance warning and an expansion of Iranian operations into areas that had not previously been targeted.
The warnings followed reports that the United States could launch major strikes against Iranian energy infrastructure during the August 1–2 weekend.
CBS reported that the United States and Israel were considering coordinated military action, although a final decision had not been confirmed. The Wall Street Journal reported that President Donald Trump had already authorized an operation that could continue for several days.
If new strikes are launched, Iran could respond by targeting U.S. military bases and other American interests across the Middle East.
Despite the security warning, the U.S. Embassy in Israel said regular consular and visa services were continuing.
