U.S. Forces Intercept Iranian Missiles and Drones Near Gulf Waters
U.S. Central Command says American forces intercepted Iranian missiles and drones aimed toward Gulf targets and maritime traffic, then struck Iranian radar sites used to threaten the region.
U.S. forces intercepted multiple Iranian ballistic missiles and drones launched toward the Strait of Hormuz and Gulf neighbors on June 5, according to U.S. Central Command.
CENTCOM said Iran fired seven ballistic missiles toward Kuwait and Bahrain after U.S. forces shot down four Iranian one-way attack drones headed toward the Strait of Hormuz. The drones were described as an immediate threat to regional maritime traffic.
Following the drone threat, U.S. forces struck Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites in Goruk and on Qeshm Island to prevent further attacks at sea.
Initial assessments say six Iranian missiles were intercepted, while a seventh failed to reach its target. CENTCOM said there are no reports of U.S. personnel being harmed.
The command also rejected Iranian claims that the U.S. 5th Fleet headquarters in Bahrain was damaged, calling those claims false.
This is another reminder that Iran’s aggression continues even under the language of a “ceasefire.” The regime keeps testing U.S. and allied defenses, threatening Gulf states, and endangering international shipping near one of the world’s most critical waterways.
CENTCOM said U.S. forces remain ready to respond to Iranian attacks in self-defense.
