Vance: U.S.-Iran Talks Build Foundation for Possible Agreement as IAEA Inspectors Expected to Return
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said recent talks with Iran established a positive foundation for a possible future agreement. According to Vance, Iran has agreed to allow International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors to return, while technical negotiations will continue. Officials also reported progress on a mechanism aimed at preventing military escalation between Israel and the Hezbollah terror group in Lebanon.
Following approximately 18 hours of negotiations, Iranian officials concluded the latest round of talks with the United States. Vice President J.D. Vance described the discussions as laying a "good foundation" for a potential final agreement, while emphasizing that technical teams will continue working on unresolved issues.
According to Vance, Iran has agreed to allow inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to return, a move that could improve international oversight of Tehran's nuclear activities.
Plan for Unfrozen Iranian Assets
Vance also said the United States and Qatar are developing a framework that would direct any unfrozen Iranian financial assets toward the purchase of American goods, rather than allowing unrestricted access to the funds.
Progress on Israel-Hezbollah Deconfliction
According to Vance, negotiators made significant progress toward establishing an Israel-Hezbollah "deconfliction mechanism." Mediators said the plan includes creating a dedicated communication cell designed to reduce the risk of unintended military escalation along Israel's northern border.
Israel has repeatedly stated that it will not tolerate Hezbollah, the Iran-backed terrorist organization, rebuilding its military infrastructure or threatening Israeli communities near the Lebanese border.
Separate Report from Judea and Samaria
Separately, reports indicated that several vehicles were set on fire at a car dealership near Ramallah in Judea and Samaria. Authorities have not released full details, and the incident remains under investigation.
