The embassy warned that flights could be disrupted and airspace could be closed with little or no warning.
It also reminded Americans that the U.S. State Department has Iraq under a Level 4: Do Not Travel advisory, the highest warning level.
“Do not travel to Iraq for any reason. If you are there, leave now,” the embassy warned.
The alert comes as tensions continue to rise across the region. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed it struck and destroyed 18 “important targets” linked to the United States in response to what it described as new American attacks on Iran.
The situation remains highly sensitive, with U.S. citizens being told to leave Iraq immediately as Washington prepares for possible further escalation.
